Network Like a Pro at Tourism Events

Operating and managing an activity business can become a struggle if businesses do not network efficiently. Although online partnerships are valuable, there is no substitute for face-to-face networking.

What Can Networking Do for Your Business?

Tourism events and conferences offer you the chance to connect with like-minded people, stay current with the latest trends, learn about your competitors, and find business partners. It is important to identify the right events to attend. Some of the conferences can appear pricey especially if your business is only starting up. Getting in touch with your local Chamber of Commerce or an industry-specific trade association can direct you towards the latest developments in your industry if you are not ready to invest in conferences yet.

Three important reasons why you should invest in networking opportunities:

  1. Scout Out Potential Clients
Customers are more likely to support your business if they know you and have built a personal connection.

  2. Find New Business Partners
Collaborate with other businesses. Find out what works for you such as referrals and combos, a great way to increase sales.

  3. Educate Yourself
See what’s happening in the industry and what the competitors are up to!

Tips on Networking

Make sure you squeeze the best out of the event. Some tips to follow are:

  • Bring the Right Information
Bring brochures, business cards, and marketing information for your potential partners.
  • Communicate
Introduce yourself, actively listen, and network wisely.
  • Follow Up
Prioritise your potential partners into a list, drop them a line after the event with relevant information that might be of interest to them.
  • Measure
It is important to measure the return on investment of your time and money. Ask yourself whether there is any progress in your business after the networking event. Quantify measurements such as the number of customers achieved via the business partner. Promo codes are a way to do this.

Upcoming Events: TRENZ 2017

New Zealand’s biggest international Tourism trade fair is returning this year in Auckland, from May 9th – 12th. TRENZ is a fantastic opportunity for activity operators to showcase their products to over 300 international buyers. Buyers participating in TRENZ are looking for exciting products and experiences that they can sell to their local and overseas customers. The four-day event provides you with the opportunities to network, promote your services, get expert insights on attracting high-value visitors, sign contracts and pick up influential business partners.
